Rockweiler Insulation 2010 Late Model Points As of August 6, 2010 Scott Broughton Captures the Checkered Flag at MIS Wilberg, Ace, Ambrose, and McNamara Also in Victory Lane. By John Wells (VL Photos follow race report) Oregon, WI (Friday, August 6, 2010)- On a picture-perfect night for racing, Scott Broughton picked up the win in the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models for the third time in 2010. Bobby Wilberg won again in the Ho Chunk Gaming Area Sportsman while Chester Ace (Roto Rooter Bandits), Todd Ambrose (Club LaMark Hobby Stocks), and Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) were also winners. It was also a big night for students in the ASA Educational Series as $90,000 in scholarships to Ohio Technical College was presented at intermission. Vern Fagerberg Jr. of Bloomingdale, Illinois, won the Promoter’s Award and netted a $20,000 scholarship. It was also Kids’ Club Night with hundreds of prizes including five bikes presented to the kids. MIS would like to thank all of the sponsors for the Kids’ Club including many of the race teams.
Broughton’s On Top of His Game in Late Models Scott Broughton was the best in the show tonight as he won for the third time by holding off the 23 car field in the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models. “We had a really good car tonight and got things done,” said Broughton from victory lane. Chad Stevens and Dale Nottestad ushered the field to the green flag with Stevens jumping out to the early lead after some exciting side by side racing. Stevens would continue to lead until he slowed coming out of turn two on lap 4 opening the door for Broughton, Ryan Goldade, and Bobby Wilberg who quickly grabbed the top three spots. The caution would come out on lap 5 for a spin in turn four setting up the first double-file restart with Broughton on the inside and Goldade on the outside. Broughton would continue his leading ways once the green waved again with Wilberg taking over second when he got to the inside of Goldade on lap 7. Two laps later another spin would bring out the yellow flag with Wilberg now lining up alongside Broughton on the restart. It would be a great restart by Broughton with Goldade moving back to second followed by John Baumeister Jr. and Wilberg. By lap 15, Broughton had built up a five car length lead and definitely sending the message to his fellow competitors that he was the man to beat. A good race for second between Goldade and Baumeister Jr. saw the latter take over the runner up position on lap 21. By lap 26 Broughton had caught the tail of the field and began working his way through lapped traffic like a morning commute on Madison’s Beltline. This allowed him to build up a ten car length lead by lap 29 before the caution would come out on lap 33 for another spin and negate his advantage. With Baumeister Jr. lining up to the outside and Goldade and Wilberg behind in row two, Broughton was able to continue his lead from the inside and never relinquish it enroute to victory lane. Goldade would finish in second place followed by Wilberg, Nottestad, and Kevin Knuese, who picked up a career high fifth place finish. Baumeister Jr. would have to settle for sixth followed by point leader Jeremy Miller in seventh. Miller’s lead in the championship chase is now just four points over Wilberg with Broughton in third. “It’s going to be a good point race. I am looking forward to it,” said Broughton as the division is down to four feature races yet to run in 2010 before the weekly racing season ends. Riddle set fast time for the second week in a row with a lap of 18.971. Heat victories went to Vern Fagerberg Jr., Brady Liddle, and Shaun Scheel.
